Canada x Reader - Marry Me

Love is such a mysterious thing.

It can make people's hearts skip a beat in an instant.

It can make you feel completely nervous and unusually giddy.

It can make you fall so hard that you'd want to marry someone you know you love...

...even if you haven't talked to that person yet.

The smell of coffee wafted through the air as everyone in the small cafe chatted cheerfully with one another. Well--except for the young, soft-spoken Canadian named Matthew Williams, who sat in the corner all by himself that morning. He had wavy, blonde hair and violet eyes that looked sullenly outside the window.

"I still haven't received the food I ordered yet." He thought to himself.

He sighed. "It's probably because they don't remember me...or that they don't see me here at all...not like this is a surprise to me."

He started to look around the cafe. It had such a cozy feel and played good music.

They served great coffee and pancakes, too, so he decided to go here whenever he had time. It also didn't hurt to note that there was someone that sort of...caught his heart.

The boy turned his head to the (h/c) girl who wore a warm smile as she took the orders of a couple a few seats away from him. When she was done, she flipped her notepad and tucked her pen on her ear. She was about to go back to the counter, when she saw someone from the corner of her eye.

It was a guy, sitting on the far end of the cafe, in the corner. He looked about her age and had an aura around him that gave the girl butterflies in her stomach. She knew this person. It was the same guy who came to this place almost every day.

Though she wanted to be the one taking his orders so that she could at least talk to him, she was assigned to the other end of the cafe while (coworker's name) was assigned to the other. After a while, she noticed that she locked eyes with the blonde boy. Blood rushed to her cheeks and she suddenly looked away to regain her composure.

Once she calmed down, she turned her head to face him again.

She smiled at him.

He smiled back.

She never knew that a simple smile would make her heart skip a beat. The boy had such loving eyes that looked like he wanted to express so much feeling. The girl then noticed that he was here for quite some time now and it looked like he still hasn't received his order. She tilted her head and looked at his table. As if the guy read her mind, he shrugged and motioned that he wasn't served yet. The girl nodded apologetically and made her way back to the kitchen.

Violet orbs followed the young girl's figure before she disappeared into the kitchen.

The Canadian took a deep breath and placed his hands on his reddened cheeks.

"Sh-She...She...noticed me...? She...she saw me. Just now...she really did, right?... She even smiled at me!... I..." He thought to himself frantically as he felt his heart pound faster and faster.

He closed his eyes and pictured the girl once more. She was wearing her cafe uniform with an apron tied to her waist. Her (h/c) hair tied in a ponytail. It was quite a messy ponytail, but she still looked so beautiful like that. She had (e/c) coloured eyes that practically sparkled as she talked to her valued customers. She was so simple, yet so...so perfect.

He suddenly remembered the nametag the girl wore. Her name was (Name).

"I...

I'm in love with her." The boy admitted to himself.

He was suddenly snapped out of his daze when someone tapped his shoulder and spoke, "Excuse me, sir. Here's your order. Sorry for the wait..." The waiter apologised.

He shook his  head and spoke in a low voice. "I-It's fine...Thanks."

"Ahaha. It was a good thing (Name) reminded me--I almost forgot that I haven't given you your pancakes and coffee...so yeah." The waiter said as he scratched the back of his head.

Matthew's eyes widened at this. So she really did...

He read the waiter's name tag, looked up to face him and then spoke, "O-Oh...Thanks (coworker's name)... P-Please tell Miss (Name) that I appreciate it, eh?

The other boy grinned. "Sure thing, sir! But...it'd be nicer if you thanked her yourself. Y'know, I think she sorta li--"

The Canadian's cellphone suddenly rang, cutting off the waiter. (Coworker's name) took that as his cue to leave and attend to the other customers.

Matthew answered the phone and spoke in a very hushed voice. "Hello...?"

"YO! Mattie, dude! I'm gonna throw a party at your house. You don't mind, right? Right! Wooo! Alright, party time!!! HAHAHAHAHA!" A very energetic American said insanely fast from the other line of the phone.

A look of horror swept across the boy's face as he heard his brother's loud rambling.

"Alfred's totally going to wreck my house!" he thought in pure fear.

The Canadian boy quickly finished his pancakes, chugged down his coffee and ran out of the cafe to stop his brother's crazy antics.

Little did he know that a certain (h/c) haired girl's eyes saddened as she saw that a certain blonde-haired, violet-eyed Canadian left the cafe.

The day dragged on and (Name) did her job like she usually does, but there was something that bothered her. It was...a strange feeling. She hasn't taken notice of this before, but she was sure that it must've been with her for a very long time now.

What that feeling was, she still can't put into words...but she knows that she feels it whenever she looks at that table at the corner of the cafe.

It was that blonde haired, violet-eyed boy's usual spot. He was Canadian, from what she heard from her coworker who worked on that side of the cafe. There was something about him that makes her feel a warm, fluttering feeling.  They would usually exchange glances and smiles, but that's it.

Breaking her out of her thoughts, the bell at the counter was rung, signalling her that an order was ready to be served to a customer. "These are for Table 3, (Name)." a coworker told her. "Got it, thanks." she replied as she took the two plates in her hands and headed over to the designated table.

As she approached the table, she couldn't help but give a small smile. The owner of the order was an old couple. What made her smile was that, even in their old age, the two were still acting so sweet to one another. They were holding hands atop of the table and were simply chatting and softly laughing. It looked like they were so happy with each other. They looked so...in love.

As she placed the two plates on the table, the couple politely thanked her and continued their conversation. As (Name) turned around, her eyes unconsciously gazed upon that certain table at the corner. It was empty. The boy was here this morning, but seemed to have left in a rush. What a shame, she wanted to at least know his name.

She wanted to know what he was like. She wanted...to know him...and become close with him...

Her face began heating up, and she knew it. "Wh-Why am I acting like this?" she wondered, gently patting her own cheeks to somehow calm herself down.

She slowly gazed upon the interior of the cafe. From the slightly messy counter, to the vacant and occupied seats, to the people. To the people who were mostly enjoying themselves in the company of their loved ones. Then her eyes stopped as she looked once more at that empty table in the corner, and she smiled. Her reaction to it made her think of something.

".......I'm...in love with him?" she thought, making her flustered and confused at the same time. "I haven't even talked to him yet! I haven't even gotten his name yet!" she reasoned with herself.

She tried to sway the idea from her mind, but a little voice in her head told her something, "But it's never to late to try, right? If we had just a little bit of courage to do so, maybe something beautiful could happen?"

It was already late in the afternoon and the cafe was practically empty that time. They were free to do whatever they want that time, it was only half an hour more before the end of her shift, too.

Somehow, she found herself wanting to go outside. She took off her apron and walked out of the cafe, looking left and right, as if searching for something.

"What am I doing? It's...It's not like he'll be out here..." she thought to herself, a bit down when she saw the empty lot in front of the building. Sighing, she went back inside the cafe.

As she went back inside, she could hear the chattering of her coworkers over at the kitchen. She would usually join in on their conversations, but didn't feel like doing so that day. Instead, she sat on a particular place in the cafe. Yes, at that table in the corner of the cafe.

She poured herself a cup of coffee and sighed. Propping her elbows on the table and resting her chin on her knuckle, her mind began to wander. At that moment, one of her favourite songs played on the radio they had in the cafe.

Forever can never be long enough for me
To feel like I've had long enough with you
Forget the world now, we won't let them see
But there's one thing left to do

Wishful thinking, was what she did. She began to think, "What would it be like to be deeply in love with someone?

From what I've seen, it seems a bit scary...but if it were the right person, it'd be worth it, right?

What would it be like to find the right person?

Who would be the right person?"

At that, she blushed as she thought about a certain boy's beautiful violet orbs that she gets to see every now and then.

Now that the weight has lifted
Love has surely shifted my way

"I wonder what he's like? Would he even be interested in talking to someone like me? Would he even...feel the same feelings I have whenever I see him?" she thought.

Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say "Hello" in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm

Her eyes suddenly widened when she caught the lyrics of the song playing and she blushed once more.

"Marry? Marriage, huh?..." she softly thought out loud.

Well, she was at that kind of age already, but it never crossed her mind before. People in her life come and go, but no one brought up to her a topic as delicate as that.

Together can never be close enough for me
To feel like I am close enough to you
You wear white and I'll wear out the words "I love you"
And you're beautiful

To have someone who could share that kind of bond. That kind of...closeness. She wished for someone like that... what made her more flustered was that she couldn't think of anyone except that blonde haired, violet-eyed Canadian guy whose smile sends her stomach butterflies.

"Ugh...what am I doing?....Huh?" she suddenly noticed something on the seat of other side of the other side of the table. It was a red and white jacket that had a maple leaf design at the side. She has seen this before....it belonged to him.

It belongs to that guy that she was just thinking about. She stood up and lifted the jacket in her hands.

Now that the wait is over
And love has finally shown her my way

As if on cue, her ears perked up when she heard the bell on the front door ring. Turning her head, her eyes widened as she recognised the person who entered the cafe.

Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me

Though feeling a little shy, the blonde haired boy's violet eyes shone as he approached the (h/c) girl.

"H-Hello." he greeted in a voice barely above a whisper.

Her eyes softened as she stifled a giggle. "Hello."

Gathering all of his courage, he introduced himself.

"I'm Matthew Williams. Nice to meet you."

"My name is (Full Name). Nice to meet you, too."

She smiled at him.

He smiled back.

If I ever get the nerve to say "Hello" in this cafe
Say you will
